Master's Thesis

Designing and Evaluating Intuitive UX With Schematics in Mixed Reality

Overview

Master's Thesis featured media

In my Master's thesis, I tackled the challenge of improving how industrial personnel interact with complex 2D technical schematics in mixed reality (MR). Using the Microsoft HoloLens 2 and Unity, I designed and developed a system that prioritizes intuitive interaction and user experience (UX). I created a solution that leverages the HoloLens 2's unique capabilities, such as hand gestures, gaze controls and voice.

Through user-centered design, incorporating feedback from domain experts and usability testing, I ensured the final product was tailored to the specific needs of industrial users. Evaluation results demonstrated significant improvements in task completion times and overall user experience compared to the standard Microsoft Edge browser on the HoloLens 2. This project highlights my skills in UX design, MR development in Unity, and creating practical solutions for real-world challenges.

Note:Due to limitations with recording footage on the HoloLens, the footage in the attached videos is low resolution, and hand tracking in it appears quite choppy/laggy. This is not representative of the actual system, which runs natively at 60 fps without any input lag.
